Kent was born June 11, 1943 in Phillips, Texas to Newten Silas Akins and Stella May Killingsworth. He was a member of Faith Christian Fellowship. Kent enjoyed camping, traveling and drawing. Nothing brought more joy to his life than his granddaughter, Anese. Kent had a big heart and he claimed many other “grandkids and family” as his own that he held dearly in his heart.
He is preceded in death by his parents; twin brother, Floyd Trent Akins; brothers, James and Billy Joe Akins; sisters, Betty Hobgood and Judy Briley.
Survivors include his son, Shawn Akins and wife Rose of Borger; granddaughter, Anese Akins of Borger; sister, Wanda Watson-Berry of Englewood, Colorado and special friends, Jo Ann Eason and Patty Love.
The heavens have a new angel and star now. Kent was one of my favorite friends to meet up with. He always had a smile on his face and something nice to say. The Lord really blessed us all for having known and loved him. I have always had his card in my purse with his Woody Woodpecker blessing on it. May God give his peace to you at this time of loss. Kent is having his rewards now.

Our hearts are sad because we are going to miss Uncle Kent so much, but at the same time, we know he is rejoicing, singing, and dancing with everyone in heaven. I have messages on my phone that I will probably never delete from my Uncle Kent. He was my prayer warrior after my mama went to heaven. I love what Brandon said about him being able to look after us all at one time now. Shawn, Rose, Anise and Jo, know that I will keep you in my prayers for strength and comfort during this difficult time.

I am so sad to hear of Kent’s passing. Kent was very special to me and my family. I remember always going over to his house when I was little and he always took my sisters and I to go see the show animals. I also had the opportunity as teenager working with him at Huber and I enjoyed having talks with him and no matter what he also had a great big grin. He was such a great friend to my dad (Johnny) and was there for us when he passed. He gave me one of his cards he passed out and I remember seeing he had put one in my dads suit pocket at the viewing and I know he had that same grin when he saw my dad in heaven. I loved Kent dearly and it saddens me not to be able to be at his life celebration. I send my condolences to all his loved ones.

Condolences to and prayers for Shawn, Rose, Anese, and all who loved Kent. His kind heart, big smile, steadfast faith, his drawings, and his pride in Anese will not be forgotten. He has joined Johnny Smith,Eddie Burk, Loyd, and other former R and M Energy employees in heaven. Can imagine the conversations with Kent and Loyd being the voices with the highest volume. Again, my sympathy to all who loved and liked Kent.

He was one of the Greats. Always smiling and cracking jokes. He would hand out woody woodpecker cards that he drew that say “ God loves you!” Then he would say and so Do I. He had one of the biggest hearts. We love and will miss you.

My sympathy to Kents family, He had been a loyal friend for over 65 years. In the twenty years we worked together he was always always happy and a pleasure to worth with. He was my best most faithful friend. He called the day before he passed away and the last thing he said to me was..."I love you brother "...little did I know that it would be the last time I would hear his voice. He earned his one way ticket to heaven many years ago and was a fine Christian man. There will be a big void in the lives who knew him. Rest in peace my brother in Christ. Glen Phelps

Shawn and family,
I am so sorry to hear about your dad. I have known him all my life, 60 plus years. He was part of my family, as were your grandparents Newt and Stella and your mom. Kent always had a smile on his face and joking around. I have some great memories of Kent. I dearly loved your dad. Prayers of comfort for you, Rose, Anise and your mom and the rest of the family.
