Evelyn Maurine Russ, 95, passed away peacefully in her home in Panhandle, Texas on July 7, 2018.
Maurine was born on May 29, 1923 in Panhandle, Texas to Charles LeeRoy Russ, Sr. and Mabel Elizabeth Irvin Russ. She was the oldest of 5 children. She attended Panhandle High School and Secretarial School in Amarillo, Texas.
She worked for SIC in Amarillo for numerous years as a secretary until it became necessary for her to return home to the family farm in Panhandle and care for her father after the passing of her mother. Once back in Panhandle, she worked for Farm Bureau Insurance and Carson County for many years until her retirement. After her retirement she filled in for many positions at the Carson County Courthouse and worked part-time for Minton Chatwell Funeral Home in Panhandle.
Although Maurine was never married and never had children of her own, she considered her nieces and nephews to be her children and treated them as such.
She is survived by her brother, Charles Russ, Jr. of Panhandle, 2 sisters, Ola Faye Hinsey of Silverton, Oregon and Mary Sue Triplett of Claude, Texas; nieces, Denise Davis and husband, Gary and Katie Muir and husband Douglas of Panhandle, Carrie Willis and husband Branch of Conroe, Tx., Mary Beth Boyd and husband Richard of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Peggy Kaney and husband Brian of Tallequah, Oklahoma, Carol Wnek and husband Mike of Bremerton, WA, Cherry Marshall and husband Lanny of Amarillo, Tx and nephews, Charley Triplett and wife Melissa of Lubbock, Tx., Jackie Adams and wife Kitty of Claude, Tx., Maury Adams and wife Amy of Hereford, Tx. and several great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held 11 am on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 in Panhandle Cemetery under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Panhandle. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at the funeral home.
