Alan Wayne Bates, 60, passed away Monday, June 30, 2014.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 pm Thursday, July 3, 2014 at Wesley United Methodist Church, Borger, Texas. Burial will follow in Westlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. His memory may be honored with a gift to Helping Hands, 517 W Jefferson St, Borger, TX, 79007, Rainbow Room, P.O. Box 1391, Borger, TX, 79008, or a charity of choice.

Alan was born July 8, 1953 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma to Arnold and Billie Bates. He married Sheila Ennis in Borger on August 16, 1975. Alan was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the Amarillo Area Corvette Club. He was formerly a member of the Black Sheep Squadron Model Airplane Club. Alan, a capital projects engineering manager, retired in August of 2008 from Phillips PetroleumConoco Phillips after 34 years of service. He loved NASCAR, watching and working with open wheel dirt track racing, and cruising and participating in Corvette Club activities, but nothing filled his heart with joy like his wife, son and daughter.

He is preceded in death by his parents Grandpa and Grandma Gage and sister, Carolyn Davenport.

Survivors include his wife, Sheila of the home son, Caleb Alan Bates and wife, Whitney Brooke of Houston daughter, Whitney Elizabeth Bates of Austin motherinlaw, Delpha Ennis of Borger uncle, Elmer Thompson of Kansas nieces, Kelly and Melissa nephews, Mike, Zane and Eric numerous great nieces, great nephews, great great nieces and great great nephews numerous cousins and a host of friends.
