Alan Foster Hughes I, was born July 8, 1956 to his loving parents, Max & Mary Hughes in Borger, TX. Alan worked in the local oilfields as a young man after high school and eventually chose a career with the City of Borger Water Maintenance Department. Alan retired from the City of Borger going on to spend his retirement years with his family. Alan was an umpire for the USA Softball and USA Softball of North Texas for over 20 years and diligently watched his grandchildren and great grandchildren play. He was a Nascar enthusiast. Alan married the love of his life Mary Gariepy Risner-Hughes June 1, 1997. Alan did what many men chose not to do, he loved another man’s children as his own and never thought twice about it. Alan & Mary enjoyed a loving life together for over 30 years, married for 25 years until she passed in 2022. Alan often enjoyed traveling to the mountains and was always up for a sporadic road trip with his daughter. During the hunting months, you would find Alan among the deer, turkey, and any other creature he could hunt, or 'pretend to hunt'. Alan developed lifelong friends in the hunting camp who took in his daughter and her children as their own, even gifting them each nicknames. Alan enjoyed the open road on his motorcycle over the years. He would often take his daughter for rides 'just because' and was involved in every poker run and fundraiser he could get to, especially ones for children. Alan shared a love of riding with his grandson Dakota and they often spoke of dreams they each had for one another with the wind in their hair. Alan was an umpire for the USA Softball and USA Softball of North Texas for over 20 years and diligently watched his grandchildren and great grandchildren play. He was a Nascar enthusiast and a Taz fan. Alan was a simple soul who loved hard and was generous to all. Alan was of the Baptist faith and believed in the Lord and was never afraid to let you know it.
