Allen Reed was born August 13, 1921 in Washington County, Arkansas near the community of Cane Hill. The son of Thomas Lloyd Reed and Sarah Dorcas Cox Reed, he was the fifth of seven children. His father died suddenly when Allen was just nine years old. Allen had to grow up quickly and along with his brothers assume responsibility for taking care of his family. He left home when he was a teenager to work on a farm in Kansas and later to a ranch in Oklahoma where he was isolated for weeks at a time tending cattle.
In 1945 he went to work for Phillips Petroleum Company. Also, that same year he married "the most beautiful" girl he had ever seen, Ruby Jo Thompson. He was an instrument man for Phillips Petroleum Company for 39 years, retiring in 1984. After his retirement he continued to be active working as the much loved delivery man for Fritch Drug. Allen was often teased about how frugal he was. Some people may say that he was overly frugal but his friends and family know that he was always the first one to offer help or a loan when it was needed. He had strong conservative opinions. His greatest wish was those he left behind would "make America great again". Although Allen did not attend church he believed in God and was always ready to share his Pentecostal beliefs. Acts 2:38 was his favorite bible verse.
Allen was preceded in death by his parents, five siblings, and Ruby Jo.
Survivors include his four children: Larry Reed and wife Jimmie; Vickie Moore and husband Stan; Keith Reed and wife Ronda; Cindy Morgan and husband Dave.
