Alma May Burney, 89, passed away Wednesday, January 24, 2024
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at Eternal Light Church,822 Weatherly, Borger, TX. Burial follows in Highland Park Cemetery under the direction of Minton Chatwell, Funeral Director of Borger. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm at the funeral home 314 S. Hedegecoke on February 2, 2024.
Alma was born March 4, 1934, in Picher, Oklahoma to Charlie Eli Ireland and Lavetta Mary Luman Ireland. She was the 9th child of 10, five brothers and four sisters. Alma married Loye Dee. "Bugs" Burney, Sr. on July 22, 1949, in Lodi, California, they were married 64 years before he preceded her in death. She was a lifetime member of the VFW, former commander of the Disabled Veteran Auxiliary, and served in the Senior Region of the Moose Lodge. She loved John Wayne movies and her dogs. She loved to play pool and was revered as a pool shark, also loved to dance with her husband.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Lavetta Ireland; husband, L.D. "Bugs" Burney, Sr.; son, Dennis Keith Burney; two grandsons, Bryan Wayne Burney, and David Curtis Boles; Great-great-granddaughter Summer Burkhalter has five brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include her children, Loye D Burney, Jr. and wife Susan of Borger, Elvina Mary Drinnen of Amarillo Bruce Wayne Burney and wife Norma of Amarillo; Loreta Marie Woods and husband Tommie of Windham, Ohio, Marlene Kay Boles and husband Ernie of Borger; Sister Nellie Luther of Oklahoma; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren numerous nieces and nephews; and host of extended family.
