Borger

Alton Ray Cheatwood, 92, died Wednesday, March 23, 2022, in Borger, TX. He was a resident of Borger for over 70 years.

Services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 26 at Riverview Baptist Church with Rev. Alton Ray Cheatwood II, Rev. Mike Kelley, Rev. Scott Wallace, and Rev. Danny White presiding.  Burial will be in Sunset Garden at Westlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Minton-Chatwell Funeral directors of Borger.  Family will be receiving friends at Riverview Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, Friday, from 5-7.

Mr. Cheatwood was born Christmas Day, 1929, near Clarendon, TX to Charles M. and Mattie Iola Cheatwood.  He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, his wife, Novelle Cheatwood, and son Jamie.

He is survived by his daughter, Susan White, and husband, Danny, of Granbury, Nancy Kelley, and husband Mike, of Masterson, brother, Merl Cheatwood, and wife, Gloria, of Friendswood, sisters, Ila Verden, and husband James, of Springtown, and Faye Mack, and husband, Fred, of Sheridan, CA.

Six grandchildren: Heather Brandstatt, and husband, Dustin. Barbie Green, and husband, Brandon. Kara Lea Deardorff, and husband, Jason. Linde’ Reed. Fallon Crunk, and husband, Jason. Alton Ray Cheatwood, II, and wife, Amy.

14 great grandchildren:  Grant Reed, Madok Reed, Linden Reed, Jackson Deardorff, Kinsley Deardorff,  Jamie Cheatwood, II, Kaitlyn Cheatwood, Jacob Green, Bradley Green, Easton Crunk, Kylee Crunk, Deacon Crunk, Emalee Brandstatt, and Gabriel Brandstatt.

Mr. Cheatwood worked for Phillips at the Carbon Black Plant for over 40 years.

Alton, “Papa”, loved his family.  He enjoyed seeing them compete in sports, or perform and was always right in the middle of all their activities as long as he was able.  He also loved the Lord.  He expressed that love by serving at Riverview Baptist Church where he was a member for over 70 years.  He was a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, song leader, builder, and the pastor’s right hand man.

The Family would like to recognize and thank Michelle Wallace for her extra love and care for Papa Alton.
