Alvin Ray Taylor, 82, of Borger, Texas was surrounded in love by his family Friday morning, November 13, 2015, when he went to be with the Lord. Alvin was born in Dublin, Texas to Alfred Lee and Hulda Lydia (Wheske) Taylor July 21, 1933. He married Ella Louise Coburn Taylor January 28, 1975.
Alvin graduated from Littlefield High School in Littlefield, Texas. As a teenager, he worked at the Palace Theater as a projectionist where he developed an early love for movies. He worked for Phillips Petroleum for 26 years retiring as an operator. After his retirement, he worked at Tri-City Electric for several years.
Alvin was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Fritch, Texas, where he served as the Treasurer for many years.
Alvin loved getting together with his family and friends, and was known for his unique flare when it came to choosing gifts for his family. In his younger years, he enjoyed fishing and other outdoor recreational activities, and he always kept up with the Lake Meredith water level. He loved Gene Autry and Elvis Presley, and on occasion even enjoyed impersonating Elvis. He also enjoyed watching old Western movies and football games.
Alvin was dearly loved by his wife, Louise, and his children, Gordon Ray Taylor and wife Elizabeth of Aubrey Texas, Sherry Lynn Sarvis and husband Nathan of Sanger, Texas, Tammy Denise Drachenburg and husband Jim of Fort Worth, Texas, Pamela Jo Bell of Fort Worth, Texas, Linda Michelle Hayes and husband Kevin of Borger, Texas, Clifford Wayne Taylor and wife Kim of Sherman, Texas, Kenneth Wayne Coburn and wife Cindy of Springdale, Arkansas, and David Doyle Cummings of Borger, Texas. He loved his nineteen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and his sisters Connie Condron of Leveland, Texas and Bobbie Hawkins of Clovis, New Mexico, and a countless host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was also preceded in death by some he dearly loved and missed, including his parents, brother, Almo Lee Taylor, and son Timothy James Taylor.
He will be sorely missed by all who knew him but we take comfort in knowing his legacy lives on in all of us and that he is now with his Heavenly Father.
Funeral service will be held 3:30 pm Monday, November 16, 2015 at Faith Baptist Church in Fritch with Pastor Don Rice, officiating. Burial will follow in Westlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. The family will receive friends 5-7 pm Sunday at the funeral home.
