Barbara Mizar

Amarillo - Barbara Mizar, a long-time resident of the Texas panhandle, passed away peacefully on Monday, the 26th of Sept., 2016 at her residence at the age of 91.

Born on December 12, 1924 in Wichita Falls, Texas, Barbara moved with her family to Borger, Texas as a young girl. She worked as a registered nurse at the Golden Plains Community Hospital in Borger and in the private practices of Dr. Dan Hampton and Dr. Paul Powell.

She was united in holy matrimony to Cleo Mizar on Nov. 21, 1941. Together they owned and operated their own business in Borger and were happily married for 61 years. Cleo preceded her in death in 2002.

Barbara was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Borger. She was especially involved in the Walk to Emmaus program. As a result of her generous and outgoing spirit and her servant's heart, she touched many lives. Her Christian faith and love for her family guided her daily and her influence will remain in the lives of all who knew her.

Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children: Terrie Simpson and her husband Rossie of San Antonio, Texas, Larry Mizar and his wife Karen of Borger, Texas, and Paul Mizar and his wife Paula of Plano, Texas. She is survived by her sisters, Sherry Elgan of Prescott, Arizona and Elizabeth Likens of Sedona, Arizona as well as her 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Lee of Phoenix, Arizona.

Barbara has been a resident of the Park Central Retirement Community in Amarillo since 2003. Minton-Chatwell Funeral Home in Borger, TX has been entrusted with arrangements and a visitation will take place at their location, 314 S. Hedgecoke St. in Borger, on Thursday, Sept. 27 from 5-7 p.m. A celebration of Barbara's life will take place at the Park Central Retirement Community at 1300 S. Harrison St. in Amarillo at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 30 Donations in Barbara's name can be made to Samaritan's Purse at http://sampur.se/2d9P7MP or by mail at PO Box 3000 Boone, NC 28607.
