Barney Lee Tubbs, 84, died December 29 in Borger. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Jeff Hutchison, officiating. Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Warner Memorial Cemetery in Warner, OK with Rev. Earl Skaggs, Pastor of Hilldale Baptist Church in Claremore, OK Services are under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
Barney was born December 10, 1928 in Union Parish, Louisiana to Lawrence and Laura Tubbs. He served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean era and moved to Borger in 1949. He married Shirley Smith July 1, 1989 in Borger and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Barney was the Hutchinson County Democrat Chairman for many years and a member of Local Union 351. He was a leadoff man for Phillips Petroleum Co. for 43 years before retiring in 1991. He loved his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his parents in law Henry and Alta Smith, his daughter Martha Norman in 1990, his first wife Catherine Wilson Tubbs in 1979, his son Ronnie Gariepy in 2009, his four brothers Thad, R.V., C. L., and Ben and his sister Marie Russell.
Barney is survived by his wife of 23 years Shirley, two sons Timothy Reber of Borger and Jim Reber of California, four daughters RaVonda Crizer and husband Ed, Sonya Powell and Linda Nichols all of Borger, Gayle King of Lawton, OK, two sisters in law Laveda Tubbs and Jaquita Lusk both of Borger and brother in law Roger Smith of Borger, 32 Grandchildren, 20 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great Great Grandchild.
