Ben Stone

January 31, 1915 — December 4, 2010

Ben Newton Stone, 95, went home to be with the Lord December 4, 2010. He was born in Stephenville, Texas in 1915 and moved to Panhandle, TX in 1925. He graduated from Panhandle high School and attended West Texas State University where he played football. He married Jennie Lynn Berry in 1940 and together, they lived in Panhandle for a total of 85 years.

Ben was a retired farmer. He was a charter member of the Panhandle Country Club and an avid golfer and fly fisherman. However, his true passion was serving his Savior. He became a deacon in 1947 and taught Sunday school for 76 years. He was recently honored as Deacon Emeritus for his 63 years of service. The lives Ben touched are countless and his influence far reaching as he wanted everyone to know about his Jesus.

Ben was preceded in death by is wife of 66 years and sister Laverne Sell.

He is survived by his two sons Mike Stone and wife Le of Odessa, John Stone and wife Donna of Murphy, NC, brother Charles Stone of Dallas, niece Martha Sell of Amarillo, five grandchildren, seven greatgrandchildren and lastly, his beloved friend and caregiver Diane Alcaron.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am. Tuesday at First Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Zimmerman officiating. Interment will be in Panhandle Cemetery under the direction of MintonChatwell Funeral Directors of Panhandle.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the First Baptist Church in Panhandle.

The family will be at 901 Pecan St. or MintonChatwell Funeral Home at 510 Main Street both in Panhandle.
