Bettie Brandon

March 28, 1925 — January 16, 2010

Bettie Rich Brandon, 84, of Amarillo formerly of Fritch and Borger passed away Saturday morning, January 16, 2010 in Amarillo after a courageous 13 year struggle with Alzheimers disease.

Services will be 1:30 pm. Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at the Minton Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Mike Nuthman of Hillside Christian Church of Amarillo officiating. Visitation will be held Monday evening from 6:45 pm. to 8:30 pm. in the chapel at Canyonview Estates 7404 Wallace Blvd. in Amarillo. Services are under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

Bettie was born March 28, 1925 In Cisco, Texas to Thomas and Emily Rich. She graduated from Albany High School and attended business school. She worked in the shipyards during World War II. On July 24, 1945 she married her high school sweetheart, Sidney R. Brandon in Orange, Texas. They lived in the BorgerFritch area for 60 years before moving to Amarillo 4 years ago. Bettie taught Sunday school at the First Presbyterian Church for many years, and retired from the National Park Service Lake Meredith Recreation Area after 20 years of service in 1988.
Bettie and Sid enjoyed square dancing for many years. She loved to listen to any kind of music, and rarely missed watching the Wheel of Fortune. Bettie had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. She will truly be missed by all that knew her.

Survivors include her devoted husband of nearly 65 years, Sid of the home 2 sons Thomas R. Brandon of Dumas, and Robert S. Brandon of Fritch her beloved granddaughter, Jennifer Newby and her adored great granddaughters, Destiny and Emily of Amarillo 3 sisters Bonnie Smith of Abilene, Leda Wagoner of Ft. Worth, and Shirley Vancil of Richardson and a brother, Kenneth Rich of Little Elm.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff and caregivers of Canyonview Estates for the many acts of love and kindness extended to our precious Bettie over the last four years.

Memorials may be made to favorite charity.
