Betty Biggs, 81, of Panhandle died Thursday, September 19, 2013.

Services will be at 10:00 am Saturday at First Baptist Church in Panhandle with Josh Light, pastor and Lucas Biggs, grandson, officiating. Burial will be in Panhandle Cemetery under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Panhandle.

Betty was born April 6, 1932 in Amarillo. She was a 1949 graduate of Panhandle High School then attended West Texas State College where she was a member of the Pi Omega sorority and was involved with many campus activities. On August 11, 1951, she married her high school sweetheart, Jim Biggs. They enjoyed 61 years of marriage and raised their children, Wayne and Kerri, on the farm north of Panhandle. Betty was involved in her community and shared her musical talent by playing piano for First Baptist Church as well as various clubs, churches, and organizations. She was the editor of The Panhandle Herald for 26 years. Many will remember her creative use of words in her column, Bettys Basket.

Betty was preceded in death by Jim, her parents J. L. Slick and Mary Naylor and a son, Loran Wayne.

Survivors include a daughter, Kerri Hicks and husband Tony of San Antonio Daughterinlaw, Kathy Biggs, 2 brothers, Jim Naylor Kathy of Waco, Ben Naylor of Ft. Worth, two sisters, Virginia Cleveland Dubof Mesquite, Mary Smith of Panhandle 6 grandchildren, Shayne Hicks Kathy, Vanessa Watkins James, Mandi ODwyer Ed, Robyn Molina Javier, Lucas BiggsJessica, and Micah HicksTammy. She will be missed terribly by 11 greatgrandchildren, Breanne, Darby, Ashlee, Abigail, Blayne, Caitlyn, Javier, Kerrington, Mason, Isaac, Liliana and Sidney Rose, due in November numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Baptist Church building fund in Panhandle.
