Betty Jean Collins, 90, passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, September 5, 2022. Services will be at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, September 8, 2022 at the First Baptist Church in Borger, under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
Betty was born on March 30, 1932 in Vernon, Texas to Roy Lee and Mamie Louise Tipton Frith. She graduated in 1950 from Borger High School where she was a cheerleader, twirler, and member of High Double Dozen Sorority. Betty was the first Miss Oil Progress in Borger. She married Jerry Collins on June 14, 1952 at the Phillips Baptist Church. They lived briefly in South Carolina and California, but always came back home to Borger. She owned her own beauty shop, Beauty Inn, where she was a beauty operator for many years. She also did bookwork for her husband, at Jerry’s Plumbing, for several years. Betty loved making ceramics and tole painting. Most of all she loved spending time with her family, especially attending her grandchildren’s sporting events. She made homemade ice cream, popcorn balls and fried pies to die for. At the age of 60 Betty took up golfing. She and Jerry were Winter Texans, where they traveled to Edinburg, Texas for 17 years, to live for several months out of the year in their RV where they camped and played non-stop golf. They always went with their close friends from Borger and made many lifetime friends from all over the United States and Canada. They were also members of an RV club at Roaring Springs Ranch.
Betty was her family’s biggest prayer warrior. She prayed her heart out, especially for her grandchildren. She was a member of First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents and great-grandson, Kyler Tindall.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 70 years, Jerry; daughters, Brenda Fraley and husband, Kelly and Vickie Swafford and husband, Kirk, both of Borger; grandchildren, Matt Fraley and wife, Natalie of Frisco, Mark Fraley of Amarillo, Mindy Tindall and husband, Eric, Kendall Fraley and wife, Michelle, and Paige Watson and husband, Matt all of Borger; great-grandchildren, Mason Fraley and Cydney, Maddison Fraley, Maddox Fraley, Kayli Woodward, Gavin Woodward, Riley Woodward, Ashlyn Tindall, Bryson Tindall, Hunter Fraley, Nathan Fraley, Jordan Fraley, Beckham Watson and Dayker Watson; sisters, Jo Dean Brown and husband, Gene of Enid and Linda Chatwell and husband, Jerry of Borger; many nieces and nephews and host of extended family and friends.
