Billy Mearl Guinn, 60, died Saturday, October 10, 2009, at his home in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 20 at Minton Memorial Chapel in Borger. Arrangements are under the direction of MintonChatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

Bill grew up and attended school in Borger. He served the U. S. Marine Corps in the Vietnam War from 1968-1969. He began his career in law enforcement in 1968 as a military police officer for the Marine Corps.

After the Marine Corps, his civilian career in law enforcement included Amarillo Police Department, serving as president of the Amarillo Police Officers Association for two years; Potter County Sheriffs Department ; Chief of Police in Canadian, Texas; Ochiltree County Sheriffs Department ; and Chief Juvenile Probation Officer for Ochiltree-Hansford Counties.

He earned an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from Amarillo College, and a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice from Wayland Baptist University. He was a qualified Emergency Medical Technician and qualified to instruct in cardiopulmonary resuscitation. He holds certificates from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement for completion of basic, intermediate, advanced and instructors training.

After suffering health problems, Bill retired, continuing to lend his expertise as a volunteer. He especially loved his volunteer as Court Appointed Special Advocate. He received an Honorary Master Peace Officer Certificate from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education.

He is survived by his parents Gene and Wanda Guinn, one daughter Nicole, one son Billy Gene, a sister Jeanette, a sister Teresa Roberts and her husband Terry of Amarillo, a sister Janell Robertson and her husband Joel of Borger, and four grandchildren, and a brother Curt Guinn of Borger. A host of nieces and nephews.
