Billy Ray Shumate, 84, passed away Saturday, July 11, 2020.
Graveside services will be held at 10 am on Friday, July 17, 2020 in Panhandle Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm on Thursday, July 16, 2020 at Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Panhandle. Billy was born November 12, 1935, in Wheeler, Texas to Louis Shumate and Ruby West Shumate. He was a Manager for Atmos Energy prior to his retirement. After retirement Billy traveled with the Texas Baptist Men Association. Billy was a 40-year member of First Baptist Church of Panhandle before moving away from the area. Currently, he was a member of First Baptist Church of Pampa. Billy was an amateur photographer and had the opportunity to document many Panhandle weddings in photos. He enjoyed working on cars, woodworking, tinkering somewhat of a Mr. Fix-it.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Belva Sue Shumate in 2016; and son-in-law, Jeff Dimick.
Survivors include his son, Steve Shumate of Pampa; daughter, Shela Stafford and husband Bud of Amarillo; and two grandchildren, Stephanie Shumate and Austin Shumate of Utah.
