Bobby Joe (BJ) Townsend, 94, passed away November 11, 2021.
A celebration of his life will be held at 11 AM on Friday, November 19, 2021, in the Minton Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Highland Park Cemetery under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. Family will receive friends Thursday, November 18, 2021 from 5-7 PM at the funeral home.
BJ was born August 24, 1927, in Silo, Oklahoma. He proudly served in the United States Navy in the South Pacific Theatre during WWII and again for the Korean Conflict. He retired from Phillips Petroleum Company with almost 40 years of service. While he resided in Borger, BJ was a member of Bunavista Baptist Church.
After he retired, he traveled extensively and spent the winters in South Texas. He eventually settled in South Texas at Casa Del Valle Active Senior Community. He was a member of the community’s Competitive Billiard Team and the “whittlin” club. Casa Del Valle crowned him “King” upon being the longest resident of the community. He especially enjoyed visiting family, traveling in his RV and fishing with his fishing buddies.
He is preceded in death by his first wife of 46 years, Betty Townsend and his second wife of 15 years, Bettie McGee Townsend, his parents, Henry and Edna Townsend and his sister, Willie Mae Tatum.
Survivors include his son, Robert Townsend and wife Sally; his daughters, Karen Copp and husband Lloyd and Kathleen Lipko and husband David; 11 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; his brother, Willard Townsend; several beloved nieces and nephews; Bettie’s daughters, Pam Knefelkamp, Carol McGee and Patricia Carron and their families.
