Carolyn Sue Hermesmeyer of Panhandle, Texas, 71, died peacefully on September 1, 2015, in Pampa, Texas, surrounded by family. She was born on April 12, 1944 in Dallas, Texas, to Red and Agnes Bell, and she was the oldest of four children. She was united in marriage to the love of her life, Bill Hermesmeyer, on November 17, 1967 in Clarendon, Texas. Bill and Carolyn made their home in Panhandle, Texas in 1970.
Carolyn attended Texas Woman's University College and received her bachelor's degree. She later obtained a Master's of Education from Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, Oklahoma. Carolyn served thirty seven years as an educator with most of those years spent at Panhandle High School. She was loved by her students just as she loved them. She retired in 2005 so she could devote more time to her family.
Carolyn was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, and friend to all. She was passionate about helping those around her, whether managing the swimming pool, volunteering at the convent, or organizing a bridal shower. Family and friends were Carolyn's passion and delight, and she loved to cook, host, and entertain. She will always be remembered as a bright, shining light in the community.
Carolyn's greatest accomplishment was her immense love for her family, and when it came to her three sons and six grandchildren, her true love would shine through. Her favorite holiday was Christmas, and some of the greatest memories of the kids and grandkids come from Christmas at Nanny's in Panhandle, Texas. Her children and grandchildren will tell you that she had "the patience of a saint." She was supportive and encouraging, wise and kind, calm and serene in her faith. Carolyn will always be remembered as a selfless wife, mother, and grandmother.
Carolyn is preceded in death by Alfred and Agnes Bell.
Survivors include her husband Bill; three sons, Scott Hermesmeyer and his wife Angie of Goldthwaite, Stephen Hermesmeyer and his wife Laura of Comanche, Sam Hermesmeyer and his wife Crystal of McLean; six grandchildren, Bronte, Bryce, Drew, Cole, Hope, and Cutter Hermesmeyer; three siblings, Peggy Crow and her husband James of Panhandle, Woody Bell of Panhandle, and Johnny Bell and his wife Marlene of Amarillo and Phillip Hermesmeyer of Clarendon; nieces Lori Lermon and Angie Bell; and nephews Jeremey Britten, Ryan Britten, Chad Bell, Dusty Bell, Gavin Bell.
Funeral services will be held 9 am on September 4, 2015 at St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Panhandle (Father Mitch officiating). The rosary will be recited beginning at 6:30 pm at St. Theresa's Catholic Church. The Hermesmeyer family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Coronado Nursing Home in Pampa, Texas, for taking such great care of Carolyn. Memorials may be made in Carolyn's name to the Red Bell/Jim Brinkley Scholarship Fund.
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
