Cathryn Brown

Cathryn M. Brown, 99, joined her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, June 28, 2016.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 am Saturday, July 2, 2016 at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Panhandle with Father Mieczyslaw Prezepiora, celebrant. Burial will follow in Panhandle Cemetery under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Panhandle. The Rosary will be recited beginning at 6 pm Friday, July 1, 2016 at St. Theresa Catholic Church.

Cathryn was born on March 29, 1917 in Harmon, Oklahoma to Thomas and Gertrude (Meunier) Hanlon. She graduated high school and followed her dream of becoming a registered nurse. In January of 1949 she married the love of her life Bill Brown. They were married 67 years and raised 7 children. She worked several years at the Groom Hospital until it closed, she then became Director of Nursing at St. Anns Nursing Home in Panhandle until her retirement. She was a Red Cross volunteer and volunteered with several other organizations.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill Brown; one infant son, Michael; six brothers and two sisters.

She is survived six sons, Joe Brown of Oronoco, Minnesota, Bill Brown, Jr. and wife Pam of Howardwick, Texas, John Brown and wife Sue of Wichita, Kansas, James Brown and wife Cathy of Panhandle, Tommy Brown of Canyon, Carl Brown of Atlanta, Georgia; daughter, Susie Boland and husband Pat of California; brother, Jim Hanlon of Tulsa, Oklahoma; 15 grandchildren, Jackie and Abe Miller, Kelly Boland, John Boland, Emily Boland, Daniel Boland, Lacy Brown, Ashley Brown, Joe Brown, Jr. and wife Leann, Brent Brown, Brian Brown, Bradley Brown, Melissa Love and husband Wendell, Natalie Brown, Jenna Brown, Cherelle Brown; and seven great grandchildren.

A very special thank you to the caring staff at Palo Duro Nursing Home and to the staff at Amarillo Hospice at the Plains.
