Charles Oren Gray, 84, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 11, 2007.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the First Assembly of God Church with Rev. Calvin Newton, Pastor officiating. Interment will follow at Westlawn Memorial Park in the Garden of Hope under the direction of Minton-Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
Mr. Gray was born July 10, 1923 in Gray, Oklahoma to Eva Jane Hagar Gray and James Monroe Gray. At the age of 13, he and his family moved to Carney, OK. He served with the Civil Conservation Corps stationed in Colorado before joining the Army during WW II and served in the 1277 Combat Infantry Division in the European Theater. After his discharge he worked at Tinker Field in Oklahoma City, OK.
In 1946 he met Martha Sapp. They were married on August 31, 1947 in Chandler, OK. They moved to Borger, TX in September of 1947 and Charles went to work for Phillips Petroleum Company on October 7, 1947. He retired from Phillips on July 1, 1985 and in 1991 they moved to Chandler, OK for 12 years and then moved to Fritch, TX in 2003.
Charles is preceded in death by his parents, one sister and two brothers.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years Martha, two sons Troy Gray of San Antonio, TX and Glenn Gray and his wife Brenda of Fritch, one daughter Kathryn Graves and her husband Cliff of Borger, one brother Clifton Gray of Peckham, OK. He is also survived by 7 Grandchildren Jason Gray and wife Angie of Amarillo, Mellessa Denny and husand Steven of Amarillo, Leigh Ann Sanchez and husband Rene of San Antonio, Stephanie McLoughlin and husband Jon of Amarillo, Ryan Gray of Amarillo, Brittnye Chandler and husband Anson of Amarillo and Ashleigh Rozzell and husband Stevie of Amarillo, and five great-grandsons Timothy Gray, Grant Denny, Matthew Sanchez, Kaiden Chandler and Collin Rozzell.
He also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews, in-laws, cousins and a host of friends.
Casket bearers will be Jason Gray, Ryan Gray, Steven Denny, Rene Sanchez, Jon McLoughlin, Anson Chandler and Stevie Rozzell.
The family will be 408 Coronado in Fritch.
