Dalford Lee Whitson, 86, passed away Tuesday, November 12, 2024.
A celebration of his life will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at Fairlanes Baptist Church with Pastor Reece Watson officiating. Services are under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. In lieu of flowers please honor his memory with a gift to Fairlanes Baptist Church, 3000 Fairlanes Blvd., Borger, Texas, 79007.
Dalford was born January 5, 1938, in Soper, Oklahoma to Esker “Buck” Wayne Whitson and Linnie Lue Albright Whitson. He married Judith Creacy on June 29, 1979. Dalford attended Fairlanes Baptist Church and served in the Army National Guard until 1966. He enjoyed camping in the mountains, trout fishing, and was an avid golfer, he had 9 hole-in-ones, 8 of them being on hole 7 at Phillips Golf Course! Nothing brought more joy to his life than his family and being called Papa Dalf. Laughter played a big role in his life, he was ornery, had a “Dalfism” for everything, and jokes for days. Dalford enjoyed his morning breakfast chats at Braum’s or McDonalds which always sided nicely with lunch at the Opportunity Center or Frank Phillips College. In the summer he enjoyed going out to Gary’s Place in Fritch for pickin’ and grinnin’ sessions.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Buck and Linnie Lue Whitson; wife, Judith Whitson; brother, Wayne Whitson; and the mother of his daughter, Barbara Opdenhoff.
Survivors include his daughter, Ronna Hopson and husband Frank; grandsons, Ryan James Hopson and wife Ashley, Caleb Shawn Hopson and wife Baleigh; great grandchildren, Jovie, Briar, Knoxley, Crew; and a host of extended family and friends.
