Dan Ray Duncan, Sr., 86, of Panhandle went to be with his Savior on Sunday, December 19, 2021.
A celebration of his life will be held at 2 pm Thursday, December 23, 2021 at Panhandle Cemetery, where all are welcome to come to say good bye to our beloved father and GranDan. Services are under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Panhandle.
Dan was born on August 18, 1935 in Plainview, Texas to Ray Duncan and Alice Genevieve Bayley Duncan.
He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1953. He attended college at West Texas State College where he received his Master's Degree in Education. While in college, he met the love of his life, Barbara Taylor Duncan, whom he married on Aug. 15, 1959 in the Methodist Church in Quitaque.
After a quick stint of teaching in Las Vegas, NV, he and Barbara along with their son moved to Panhandle where they continued to build their lives. Dan taught for over 30 years, retiring as a math teacher from Panhandle Junior High. After retirement, you could find Dan out on the course playing endless rounds of golf. Dan was a charter member of the Panhandle Country Club.
Dan’s most prized title was "GranDan". He and Barb spent many hours traveling the state of Texas to watch their grandchildren play in various sporting events. He loved supporting the Panhandle Panthers and Pantherettes, even after his kids and grandkids had graduated. When not cheering on the Panthers, he was driving south to watch his younger grandkids play their various sports in South Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Barbara Taylor Duncan; and sister, Betty Addy.
Surviving are his son, Dan Ray Duncan Jr. and wife Sharon of White Deer; daughter, Darcee and husband Scooter Vaclavick of El Campo, Texas; brother-in-law, James Taylor of Littleton, Colorado; six grandchildren, Tobi Ann and husband Adam Stuart, Samantha and husband Brandon Disney-Harper, Daniel Duncan and wife Tiffany, Taylor Vaclavick, Trayton Vaclavick and Shaylee Vaclavick; and seven great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at Minton Chatwell Funeral Home in Panhandle. In lieu of flowers his memory may be honored with a donation to the Panhandle Country Club Memorial Tree Fund or to a charity of choice.
