David Ray Sumpter

David Ray Sumpter, 79, passed away Wednesday, December 6, 2023.

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, December 9, 2023, in the Minton Memorial Chapel in Borger with Pastor Scott Wallace officiating.  Burial will follow in Westlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors in Borger.   In lieu of flowers his memory may be honored with a gift to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, NY 10306 or a charity of choice.

Ray was born September 6, 1944, in Carlsbad, New Mexico to David Earl Sumpter and Nova Faye McDonald Sumpter.  He married Charlotte Moran on June 25, 1971, in Fritch.  Ray  proudly served in the United States Navy.  He worked as an insulator for Phillips and retired after 30 years of service.  Ray was a member of Riverview Baptist Church.  He enjoyed fishing, making walking sticks, and traveling.  Ray was always up for his weekly coffee sessions with friends.  Nothing brought more joy to his life than his family. 

He is preceded in death by his father, David Sumpter; mother, Nova Homer and daughter, Tammy Sumpter.

Survivors include his wife, Charlotte of Fritch; daughter, Kelly Mills and husband Brett of Fritch; son, Michael Sumpter and wife Pam of Hereford; grandchildren, Kayla Drumm, Sara Sumpter, Morgan Sumpter, Tyler Mills and wife Kiersta, Kacey Love and husband Darion; great grandchildren, Amelia, Cooper, Aubri, CJ, Kamyah, and one due to arrive on Tuesday; sister, Patricia Baxter of Austin; and a host of extended family.
