Dee Toots Herring, 87, passed away Monday, March 17, 2014.
Funeral service will be 10 am Thursday, March 20, 2014 at Panhandle Church of Christ. Burial will follow at Panhandle Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 68 pm at the funeral home.
Dee was born November 14, 1926 in Madill, Oklahoma to D.S. and Ada Herring. He proudly served in the United States Army during WWII. Mr. Herring married his first wife, Emma Lee Lockhart in Wellington, Texas on November 18, 1944 they were married for 50 years. Then he married his second wife, Dovie Knox on September 28, 1995 in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Dee was a farmer in Tulia and also in Carson County. He owned and operated service stations for many years. Then he became a truck driver and retired after 10 years from Hughes Elevator. He was a member of Alvarado Church of Christ.
He is preceded in death by his parents first wife, Emma Lee Lockhart Herring on May 11, 1995 son, DeWayne Herring in 1945 and brothers, Sherwood, Raymond and Kenneth Herring.
Survivors include his wife, Dovie of Cleburne daughters, Jane Hare and her husband, Lloyd of Panhandle, Deloris Herring of Paradise stepson, Ricky Knox and his wife, Donna of Cleburne stepdaughter, Rhonda Price and her husband, Jerry of Cleburne four grandchildren, Tommy Russell and his wife, Lucinda of Amarillo, Jessie Barnett of Denison, Lorrie Baze and her husband, Jay of Panhandle, Shellie Doughty and her husband, Ken of Paradise nine great grandchildren two great great grandchildren four step grandsons one step granddaughter and nine step grandchildren.
