Derry Gene Childress

Derry Gene Childress, 72, passed away Tuesday, Sept 3, 2024 in Amarillo, Texas.

A celebration of his life will be held at 4 pm on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, in the Minton Memorial Chapel.  Services are under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. 

Derry was born July 29, 1952, in Phillips, Texas to Joe and Jean Childress. He attended Phillips High School until 1969. He married Patsy Clark Nov. 27, 1999, in Borger, Texas.  At the time of his passing, he was medically retired from Scout Energy, where he was a Meter Tech. Derry was happiest out on his porch grilling and smoking meat. He enjoyed picking and playing the guitar until his fingers just wouldn’t let him anymore. He was just a simple man that will be very missed by so many.

He is preceded in death by wife, Dena Childress; his parents, Joe and Jean Childress; and step son-in-law, Randy Lee.

Survivors include his wife, Patsy; brother, Jody Childress and wife Soonju; son, Mikell Childress; daughter, Taren Bishop and husband Brady; step-daughters, Tanya Almaguer and husband Pablo, Angela Clark and Teressa Lee; grandchildren, Kara Childress, Dylan Childress (Jaden), Cole Childress, Jacob Bishop (Kailey Williams), Josh Bishop, Jamie Lee, Tanner Webster (Britney), Tawni Gorman (Patrick), Jaten Lee (Haylie) Dain Lee (Auburn); great-grandchildren, Bryntley Green, Daxtyn Green, Payton Green, Saylor Andrews, Caden Wooten, Rylee Childress, Brycen Childress, Bexley Childress, Charleigh Gorman, Haven Lee, and Raynie Lee.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to the Church of Christ at Borger, 1100 Bulldog Blvd,  Borger, Texas, 79007.
