Don Conner

March 21, 1927 — December 5, 2011

Don Conner, 84, died Monday, December 5, 2011 in Amarillo.

Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Fairlawn Cemetery in Elk City, OK with Rev. Johnny Robertson, pastor of First United Methodist Church officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

Don was born on March 21, 1927 in Kearney, Nebraska and had been a Borger resident since 1932. The family moved here during the depression to work in Carbon Black. He graduated from Borger High in 1945 and attended West Texas State University. He served in the US Navy during WW II on the U.S.S. Nimitz. Don married Joyce Curtis on January 19, 1952 in Borger and she preceded him in death on January 21, 2009. He worked at Phillips Petroleum for 25 years prior to owning Conner Industries. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church for almost 50 years and was a head usher.

He had been a member of the Borger Rotary Club since 1986, served with the Salvation Army as a board member for a long time, and the Gideons.

He enjoyed traveling, watching football, golf and fishing, Lake City, Colorado and puzzles.

He is survived by his son Ben Conner and wife Anabeth of Borger and six grandchildren Christina Jason McPherson, Benjamin, Charlie, Will, Jonathan and Jacob.

There will be a visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Childrens Ministry, First United Methodist Church, 200 N. McGee St., Borger, Texas 79007.
