Don Royce Roark entered heaven's gate on Friday, November 3, 2017, with a fly rod in one hand and a deer rifle in the other.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 pm, Monday, November 6, 2017 at Minton Chatwell Funeral Home in Panhandle. Celebration of life service will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 in the First United Methodist Church of Panhandle. Private burial will take place at a later date.
Don was born in Amarillo, Texas on March 9, 1933 to Annie Lee (Townley) and James Hiram Roark. He graduated in 1951 from Paducah High School where he both boxed and played football. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War serving aboard the USS Saint Paul and the USS Stembel. Don married his high school sweetheart, Tommye (Kerr) on December 12,1954. Don worked at the Pantex Plant and also at the Clements Unit. They have been Panhandle residents since 1971. He was a fan of the Panhandle Panthers, Dallas Cowboys, and the Texas Rangers. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Panhandle, VFW, and Masonic Lodge.
He is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; a brother; and a granddaughter.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Tommye; daughter, Renae Roark Haiduk and husband, Mark; son, Royce Roark and wife, Tammy; daughter, Ruth Roark Petty and husband, Dennis; grandchildren, Darci Roark Layman and husband, Jeremy, Cassie and Aspen, Annie Haiduk Ellis and husband, Tyler, Evey and Everett, Ryan Petty, Carly Haiduk and husband, Blaine Hall, and Ashley Petty.
In lieu of flowers his memory may be honored with a gift to the United Methodist Women, PO Box 549, Panhandle, Texas, 79068.
