Donald Barton

Services for Donald E. Gene Barton, 79, of Borger, will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2014, at First Baptist Church Borger, TX with the Rev. Eric Barton, Pastor of Bethel Bible Church in Tyler and Rev. Charlie Morgan, Pastor officiating. Burial will take place earlier in a private family graveside service at Westlawn Memorial Park, Borger, under direction of MintonChatwell Funeral Directors, Borger.

Mr. Barton went home to be with his Lord Jesus and breathe the air of Heaven on Saturday, June 7, 2014, in Borger. He was born September 22, 1934 in Borger, TX to the late Seth Alexander Barton and Alice Stanford Barton.

Gene grew up in Pampa, TX and was characterized his whole life by hard work. He was a very proud veteran of the U.S. Navy with which he fought in the Korean War from 1952 to 1956 aboard the USS Pickaway. He studied Electrical Engineering at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX. He had a very productive and fulfilling career in Lubbock and Borger as an electrical engineer. January 18, 1967, he married Sylvia Rendon of Monterrey, Mexico. Gene treasured and adored Sylvia through 47 years of marriage. Gene was very active in his church, and loved to discuss theology, doctrine, and the philosophy of life. All that knew him were warmed by his wisdom and compassion. Gene committed his life to making a better life for his two sons, who were his pride and joy. Most of all, Gene revered and cherished his Savior Jesus Christ, and looked forward with great anticipation to seeing Him in Person.

He is survived by his wife and the love of his life, Sylvia Barton, of Borger two sons, Steve Barton and wife Abi, of Corpus Christi, Eric Barton and wife Susan, of Tyler and grandchildren, Brooks Barton and Madison Barton of Corpus Christi Ethan Barton and Joshua Barton of Tyler.

Honorary Pallbearers will be: Danny Holt, Danny Kindy, Mickey Boyer, Jim Slaybaugh, Rick Baggett, Don Thompson, Ralph White, Roger Holmes, Gary Tate, and Randy Kirk.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made to First Baptist Church 100 South Hedgecoke St., Borger, TX 79007 or the building fund of the Downtown Campus of Bethel Bible Church, Tyler, TX 17121 Hwy 69 South, Tyler, TX 75703.

The family will receive friends at MintonChatwell Funeral Home, Tuesday, June 10, 2014, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
