Donald Burris

July 26, 1927 — April 24, 2016

Donald Eldon "Speedy" Burris, 88, passed away Sunday, April 24, 2016.
Funeral service will be held 11 am Thursday, April 28, 2016 in the Minton Memorial Chapel with Rev. Leonard Forsythe officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Park Cemetery under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Meals on Wheels or the Wounded Warriors Association.
Donald was born July 26, 1927 in Charleston, Arkansas to Reba (Richmond) and William Burris. He gave up his scholarship to Texas Tech to proudly serve in the United States Navy, where he played the tuba and baritone in the Navy Band. Donald also played in dance bands all over the Panhandle. Everyone knew him as a kind and gentle man who would help anyone in need.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lois; and sister, Shirley.
Survivors include his son, David Burris and wife Chlo of Amarillo; daughter, Pam Brooks of Borger; two grandchildren, David Burris Jr and wife Jennifer, Heather Barker and husband David; six great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and brother, Jimmie Dean and Liz Burris of Gainesville.
