Donald Rumold, 92 years old died Saturday, May 4, 2013 in Amarillo. Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m.Wednesday May 8, 2013 at Highland Park Cemetery in Borger, Texas with Chaplain Jerry Bell, Park Place Towers officiating. Services are under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. A memorial service will be held at Park Place Towers at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in Amarillo, Texas.
He was born in Hiawatha, Kansas on August 23, 1920. Donald was a graduate of Kansas University. After High School graduation he joined the Navy and was on active duty for 7 Yz years plus 5 Yz years in the Reserves. He was assigned to the Battle Ship Texas and later a PC. He was at DDay Normandy. A few months after he retired from the Navy he married Jane Ridgway. They had two daughters Donna Marie and Mary Jane.
The family moved to Borger, Texas in 1952. Don worked for Phillips
Petroleum Company in the Spectre Lab as a chemist for 32 years. While in Borger he served as the PTA President of Gateway Elementary School. He was a member of the First Christian Church where he served as a Deacon, Elder, and sang in the choir. Don was a member of the Isom Masonic Lodge where he received his 50 year pin. He also was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason. Donald and his wife lived at Park Place Towers at the time of his death.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Anna Rumold,
four sisters and a brother.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years Jane, and two daughters, Donna Meyer and husband Dan of Bridgeport, Texas and Mary Jane Dickson and husband Michael of Albuquerque, New Mexico. He had four grandchildren Matthew Dickson, Shannon Dickson, Keith Meyer and Ed Meyer and two greatgrandsons, Trevor Dickson and Gavin Dickson.
