Donnie Joe Hammer

Donnie Joe Hammer, 63, of Fritch passed away at home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, January 22, 2025. 

Cremation is under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. A celebration of his life will be held at 2 pm on January 29, 2025, at 10801 Baker St., Amarillo, Texas 79111.

Donnie was born November 20, 1961, in Dumas, Texas to Bill Joe Hammer and Zerelda Joe (Cullender) Hammer. He graduated from Dalhart High School then served in the U.S. Marine Corps as an airplane mechanic. He married Roxie Elaine Gates on May 14, 2000, in Channing, Texas. Donnie was a member of the American Legion 77 in Logan, New Mexico. He loved to read, airplanes, fishing, golf, Star Wars, working, family and friends. Donnie was known for his sense of humor and practical jokes.  Donnie was a loving son, father and husband.

Preceding him in death is his father, Bill Joe Hammer; sister, Connie Hammer; brother-in-law, Don Gates; sister-in-law, Jeanie Gates; brother-in-law, Harold Crane. 

Survivors include his wife of 24 years Roxie; mother, Zerelda Biffle of Logan, New Mexico, son, Troy Stewart of Amarillo; daughter, Shawnica Lee and husband Curtis of Fritch; brother, Clinton Hammer and wife Brandie of Sunray; sister, Lisa Smith of Stratford; ten grandchildren; loving in laws, Barbara Crane of San Jon, New Mexico, Hershell and Tracy gates of San Jon, New Mexico, Ben and Peggy Gates of San Jon, New Mexico, James Gates of Channing, Elvin and Marilyn Gates of Lubbock, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
