Doyle Ellsworth Hudgens, 82 of Amarillo, formerly of Borger, passed away Saturday, April 15, 2017 in Amarillo. Visitation with the family will be 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Tuesday at the Saint Stephen United Methodist Church. Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at the Saint Stephen United Methodist Church in Amarillo. Arrangements are under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
Doyle was born in Wilbarger County, Texas on May 11, 1934 to Jackson Ellsworth and Ruth Uldene (Farrar) Hudgens. He married Johnnie Davis on July 27, 1956 in Pecos, Texas. Doyle came to Borger from Fort Worth in 1973, and then he moved to Amarillo in November of 2006. He served in the National Guard for nine years. Doyle was a former member of the First United Methodist Church of Borger and Kum Dubl Sunday School Class. He was later a member of Saint Stephen United Methodist Church of Amarillo and a member of the John Mark Sunday School Class. Doyle was also a member of the Borger Evening Lions Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Elwin Lavon Hudgens; sister, Billie Uldene Davis; and son-in-law Willie "Jerry" Cannon.
Doyle is survived by his wife, Johnnie; son, David Lynn Hudgens of Angle Fire, NM; daughters, Janis Cannon of Canyon, Cathy Casciato and husband, Marty of Louisville, KY, and Rhonda McKeever and husband, Keith of Amarillo; sisters, Martralle Morton of Austin, Glenda Fountain of Langdon, KS and Tawana Williams of Palestine; Doyle is also survived by nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
The family request that in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to John Mark Sunday School Class Mission Fund of Saint Stephen United Methodist Church, 4600 S. Western, Amarillo, TX 79109 or the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
