Earnest Lee Vanover, 97, of Fritch passed away Friday, July 2, 2021 in Amarillo. Services for Mr. Vanover will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 5, 2021 at Celebration Family Church in Fritch, with Pastor Dwight Kirksey and Pastor Bill Browning officiating. Graveside services for Earnest will be at 4:00 p.m., Monday, July 5th at the Rule Cemetery in Rule, Texas under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors.
Earnest was born in Cushing, Texas to Lemuel Jefferson and Eunice B. (Irby) Vanover on June 3, 1924. He has lived in the Texas Panhandle since 1976. He proudly served his country as a Staff Sargent in the United States Army, serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater where he earned several medals, including the Purple Heart. Earnest married the love of his life, Margie Louise Holcomb on December 31, 1945 in Rule, Texas. He was a carpenter by trade and loved tinkering on stuff. He also loved fishing and gardening.
Earnest was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Margie; daughter, Leona Faye Vanover; son, Danny Lee Vanover, grandson Guy Lee Vanover, great grandson Ryan Wayne Johnson, great great grandson Dawson Creed Tracy and two brothers and one sister.
Left to cherish is memory are his sons David Vanover of Sanford; Tommy Vanover and wife Mary of Fritch. Daughter, Peggy Green and husband M.B. of Amarillo; brother, Lowell Carmen Vanover and wife, Helen of Amarillo; 15 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, 30 great-great grandchildren and 1 great-great-great grandchild.
