Elsie Owen Pickard, 87, of Borger died Thursday, April 5, 2012 in Amarillo.
Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2012 in the Garden of Beatitudes at Westlawn Memorial Park. Services are under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
Elsie was born August 15, 1924, in Roger Mills County, Oklahoma to Richard and Martha Hay. She moved to Borger in 1947 and was employed in the grocery business. Later, she and her husband, Joe Owens, owned the Mrs. Bairds Thrift Store. After retirement, she lovingly volunteered for many years at the hospital. Her hobbies were working on crossword puzzles, playing 84 domino games with friends, and baking sweets for others to enjoy. Elsie was a special and caring person who always had a smile on her face, even during the years she struggled with Alzheimers. She was a Christian and a longtime member of the First Baptist Church.
Elsie was preceded in death by husbands Joe Owens and Troy Pickard two brothers, Roy, and Henry Hay two sisters, Lena Leddy, and Helen Minor.
Survivors include her daughter Carol Petty, and husband Mike of Houston two grandchildren, Craig Petty of Phoenix, Arizona, and Cheryl Herdejurgen, and husband Russell of Houston two greatgrandchildren, Jack and Rose Herdejurgen.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the St. Anns Nursing Home PO Box 1179, Panhandle, Texas 79068.
Visitation will be Monday, April 9, 2012 from 5:00 7:00 p.m. at Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors in Borger.
