Elten Harley Vance, 99 of Panhandle died Friday May 10th in Amarillo. Funeral services will be 1:30 pm Tuesday May 14th at Panhandle First united Methodist Church with Rev. Buddy Payne, pastor and Dr. Jerry Lane of White Deer officiating. Burial will be at Panhandle Cemetery under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Panhandle.
Elten was born June 23, 1913 in Panhandle to Ellis and Rachel Crum Vance. He graduated from Panhandle High School in 1932. He married Lois Colgrove August 31, 1935. He served on the Cemetery Board, Square House Museum Board, Panhandle School Board and a former Carson County Commissioner. He received the Golden Nail Award and loved to square dance belonging to many clubs.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 2000 and a brother Roscoe Vance.
Surviving is his son Don and wife Paula of Panhandle. Daughters Carolyn Hedrick of Panhandle and Joyce Cockrell and husband Glenn of Fritch. Sister Avanel Holley of Dallas. Grandchildren Dale Cockrell, Mike Vance, Gary Cockrell, Sharla Valdez, Elaine Cockrell, Harley Hedrick and Jay Hedrick. Twelve great grandchildren.
