Ernest Theo Dacus, 90, died Friday, April 13, 2018 in Amarillo. Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at Minton Memorial Chapel with his son David Dacus and daughter Lola Burritt officiating. Military graveside rites will follow at Westlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
Ernest was born February 2, 1928 in Lindsay, OK to John Jacob Dacus and Ada Everett Dacus. He considered himself a lifetime resident of this area and worked for Phillips Petroleum Co., as an operator, at the Carbon Black Plant for 37 years before retiring. He proudly served his country in the US Army in 1946 and 1947, Ernest was a charitable man, when he would meet someone in need he always did his best to meet that need even if you were a stranger. He loved spending time with his kids and grand kids, traveling, camping and fishing, going to scholastic sporting events especially basketball, he even rode the team bus a few times. Ernest has been to all 50 states and enjoyed going to Bluegrass Festivals, his liked to garden and raise chickens and turkeys.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his two wives Dolly Belle Dacus and Mamie Flora Dacus, his grandson Damon Matthew Dacus, his daughter in law Cheryl Dacus, his great granddaughter Violet Marie Belle Rios, his step sons Glen and Rex Dobbs and eleven brothers and sisters.
Ernest is survived by his son David Dacus of Borger and his daughter Lola Burritt and her husband Bobby of Amarillo, his step daughter Cindy Miller of Granbury, TX, 15 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
