Ernest Washer, 92, passed away on January 11, 2021 in Amarillo. Graveside services will be held 10 am Saturday at Westlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
He was born November 3, 1928 in Achille, Oklahoma to Arley and Addie (Cannon) Washer. Ernest attended school in Achille and graduated from Achille High School in 1948. He then attended Southeastern State University in Durant.
In 1950 Ernest was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in Korea. He was in the Army Corp of Engineers. While serving in Korea he received the Purple Heart and the Legion of Merit Medal.
In 1951, while home on leave, Ernest married Wanda Lou Mattingly in Clayton, NM. After his military service, they moved to Borger, TX in 1952 where he worked for Phillips Petroleum Company's Camp Department. In 1960, he started a home building company, Washer Construction, in Borger.
Ernest and Wanda had four sons, Terry, Arlie, Dennis and David. He was preceded in death by Wanda in 1984 and Dennis in 2004. After Wanda's death Ernest moved to Lake Texoma where he resided until 2014. Ernest has most recently been living in the VA Hospital in Amarillo.
He is survived by his three sons, nine grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.
