alignleft Uncle Floyd Henry Detten, 76, died September 10, 2008 in Pampa, Texas. Floyd was born May 28, 1932 in Carson County, Texas to Leo Francis and Clara Metcalf Detten. He attended Panhandle Schools and graduated from Panhandle High School in 1951. He was a farmerrancher, entrepreneur and resident of Panhandle and a member of the Catholic Church. Uncle Floyd was still active in his dirt contracting business at the time of his passing.
alignleft Floyd was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lawrence; a sister, Rose Mary; three nephews and a niece.
alignleft A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. on Friday, September 12th at St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Panhandle, Texas. Mass will be celebrated by Father Mieczyslaw Przepiora on Saturday, September 13th at 10 a.m. at St. Theresa's followed by interment at St.Francis Cemetery.
alignleft Survivors include sisters: Anna Marie Wink and husband, Clarence of Amarillo; Blanche Koetting of Salina, Kansas; Alice Kuehler of Groom; Gladys Looten and husband, Archie; and Irene Lewis and husband, Ashby of Panhandle. Also three brothers: Donald Detten and wife Dolores of Amarillo; Ralph Detten and wife, Judy of Hereford; and Paul Detten and wife, Evelyn of Panhandle. Uncle Floyd will be fondly remembered by his fifty-three nieces and nephews; ninety-five great nieces and nephews and twenty-nine great-great nieces and nephews.
alignleft Floyd played an active role in raising his extended family and was considered the family historian. He was always quick to visit family and friends when they were hospitalized or in their homes. Floyd had an engaging smile and was quick to tell a story or laugh at one told to him. He could be a character at times - a trait common to special people in our lives. To those who knew and loved him, he was truly a man of great character and deep devotion to his faith. Floyd lived his beliefs and practiced his faith daily. His laugh and his stories will be missed as will the love and compassion he had for his family and friends. Floyd Detten was an exceptional man.
