Floyd Scott

December 6, 1926 — March 4, 2011

Floyd E. Scott, 84, passed away on March 3, 2011, at his home in Panhandle, Texas.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am Tuesday March 8th at First Christain Church in Panhandle with Rev. Larry Perkins Officiating. Burial will be in Panhandle Cemetery under the direction of MintonChatwell Funeral Directors of Panhandle.

Floyd was born to I. E. Scott and Hazel Scott on December 6, 1926.
After graduating from Panhandle High School, he joined the military and served his country while stationed in the Philippines during WWII. After the war, he attended and graduated as a petroleum geologist from Texas Tech University. He married Elva Kit Land. After working several years for Standard Oil, Floyd returned with his wife and two daughters to help farm alongside his dad West of Panhandle. As an artist he illustrated four volumes of A time to Purpose A Chronicle of Carson County, Texas Voices of the Square House and Land of Coronado as well as much historical art for the Square House Museum. Floyd Scotts knowledge, hard work and skill as first curator along with his wife Kit as director, helped nurture an appreciation and understanding of the land and the peoples of the Texas Plains.

Those who knew Floyd Scott had the opportunity to hear firsthand the stories of a high school athlete who went to state in the high jump, turned flips across the gym floor, and even rescued girls from bull snakes. He had a great story for every season of his life. From pet monkeys in the Philippines to being struck three times by lightening: throughout his life Floyd saw good and humor.

He will be missed by those of us still here including his two daughters, Paula Siddens and Patti Maryan, four grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren and his sister Alice Kight. There is a great peace in knowing that Floyd as a mason, visitor of the sick, and fan of a good Sunday sermon joins his beloved wife, Kit, in Heaven.
