Frances Gross

Frances Elizabeth Rogers Gross, 87, passed away Thursday, August 31, 2017.

Funeral service will be held 2 pm Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Judi Brandt officiating. Burial will follow in Panhandle Cemetery next to her husband under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Panhandle. Mrs. Gross will lie in state at the funeral home beginning at 8 am on Monday, September 4, 2017.

Fran was an only child, born January 22, 1930, in Omaha, NE to Paul and Eva Mae Edmondson Rogers. She graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1951 with a degree in Education. She married Arthur John Gross at Grace Methodist Church in Lincoln, NE on August 30, 1952. She was a housewife and Navy wife. Art and Fran had 3 children.

Fran and Art traveled the world with the Navy and after Art retired. They lived in Hawaii before it was a state, Japan, and China. They visited Europe, Iceland, Australia, Singapore, and New Zealand. They took several cruises, including the Alaska coast, Los Angeles to Australia, and through the Panama Canal. They had homes in Amarillo, TX and Lafayette, LA before Art's stroke. Before her husband's death, they had permanently moved to Amarillo.

She was an active member of The Daughters of the American Revolution for 32 years. Her hobbies included travelling, Red Hats, needlecrafts, furniture refinishing, garage sales, reading, cards, and dominoes.

She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur John Gross and one granddaughter.

She is survived by her daughter, Lorelei Gross Woods and her husband, Jerry Michael Woods; her son, Wayne Gross and his wife, Lorie Labbe' of Baton Rouge, LA; her son, Clayton Gross and his wife, Triska Gross of Pearland, TX; 7 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
