Garland Kite, 86, died Saturday, December 4, 2010 in Amarillo.
Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 20, 2010 at the Church of Christ at Borger with Richard Kasko officiating. Cremation is under the direction of MintonChatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
Garland was born on July 14, 1924 in Harmon County, OK and had been a Borger resident since 1950. He served in the US Navy during WW II. He married Velma Floydene Jones on March 5, 1949 in Wellington, TX. He was a master blender in the Research Department for Phillips Petroleum Co. for 32 years and was a member of the Church of Christ at Borger. He loved to look for artifacts and help people. He was preceded in death by his parents Alvin Cora Kite, his son Rusty Kite in 1962 and four brothers.
Garland is survived by his wife Floydene Kite of the Home, two daughters Valerie Kay Merlo and husband Charles of Smithville, TX, Vanessa Huffine and husband Larry of Borger, three sisters Donnie Cooper of Waco, Oneta Smith of Grand Junction, CO, Gayle Wright of Alta Loma, CA, four grandchildren Travis Huffine and wife Sherry, Rusty Huffine and wife Kirstin, Hollis Jones and husband Doug, and Gregg Johnson.
