Gene Goss went home to be with the Lord Jesus on Sunday, October 3, 2021, at Sunrise of Cinco Ranch, in Katy, Texas, surrounded by family.
Gene was born in Panhandle, Texas in 1940 to Eugene B. and Pauline Goss. Gene married the love of his life, Sylvia Ann Harpster, in 1988 and they blended their families. Gene is survived by his wife, Sylvia, and their children, James Carhart and his wife, Helen, Missy Roye, Michelle Mitchell and her husband, Brian, Kimberly Kaye Weatherly, Leigh Rae Smith, Raymond Harpster, and Shannan Goss and his wife, Kellie. Gene and Sylvia have fourteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. They are also survived by many cousins, extended family and dear friends in Carson County and the surrounding area.
Gene and Sylvia worked together for decades at Gene Goss Engine and Machine in White Deer. As a young man, Gene was known for building fast cars and working hard. Most of all though, he loved people. Whether it was his customer or someone in need in town, he always sought to give people more than they expected. In the winter Gene would be the first person at church to clear the sidewalks, and would often do the same for elderly people around town. He was known for his kindness to everyone, including those who helped care for him during the last few years of his life. The family expresses a special thanks to Todd and Jacquita Crawford, who loved Gene and Sylvia like their own family and helped keep the business running long after Gene and Sylvia were incapable of doing so themselves.
Funeral services will be held 11 am Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at First Baptist Church of Panhandle where Gene was a life-long member. Burial will follow in Panhandle Cemetery under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Panhandle. The family will receive friends at the church an hour before the service.
