Gene Hawley, 83, started pushin’ up daisies on the bottom side of the grass on Thursday, August 3, 2023.

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Monday, August 7, 2023, at the Church of Christ at Borger with Mr. Lonnie Shelton officiating.   Burial will follow in Stinnett Cemetery under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.  In lieu of flowers his memory may be honored with a gift to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee, 38105 or to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas, 66675-8516. The family will receive friends from 2-4 pm on Sunday, August 6, 2023, at the funeral home.

Gene was born December 12, 1939, in Phillips to Lonnie Esther Hawley and Lois Ruth Harbin Hawley.  He married Betty Lou Salmon on August 22, 1960, in Borger.  He was a member of the Church of Christ at Borger.  If you knew Gene, you knew he loved life, and laughing his way through it.   He had an amazing sense of humor and never met a stranger or a joke he didn’t like.  Gene enjoyed going camping and working.  By working that would be going to the coffee and donut shops to visit. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie and Lois Hawley; son, Timmy Joe Hawley; brother, Johnny Hawley; and sisters, Joyce Clark, Carol Brazeal, and Mary Ann Hawley.

Survivors include his wife, Betty of Borger; sons, Mike Hawley and wife Sara of Rush Springs, Oklahoma, Larry Fields and wife Amanda of Mississippi; daughter, Genia Burgess and husband Gary of Skellytown; grandchildren, Timothy Hawley and wife Jessica, Lindsey Miller and husband Caleb, Misty Stanford and husband Clay, Mitchell Hawley and Tori Mullins, Michael Taylor, Adam Ethridge, Erin Ethridge, Dustin Hawley and wife Lindsey, Corey Walker, Michael Burgess and wife Lovie, Jeremy Fields, Lauren Alford and husband Aaron, Brandon Fields, Larry Fields, Jr. and wife Kim, Corey Braxton and wife Audrey; numerous great grandchildren; brother, Robert Hawley of Mineola; sisters, Janet Hamm and husband Bill of Amarillo, Barbara Scott and husband James of Borger, Rita Nelon and husband Scott of Amarillo; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of extended family.
