George Breen

George Glenn Breen, Jr., of Fritch, Texas, passed away October 9, 2011, at UsseryRoan Texas State Veterans Home, where he had been a resident since late June.

Born to Naomi Epperson Breen and George Breen, Sr., in Pecos, Texas, George married Margaret Auldine Elliott in Pecos, June 17, 1947.

Known as Pug, George is survived by Mumsy and two children: Bruce wife Brenda of Fritch and Carolyn Samberson of Amarilloeight grandchildren: Jennifer Estes husband Brian, Marc, Kimberlea and Patrick Breen Kristl Eaton husband Dave, Hunter, Ashley and Trever wife Cacee Samberson and two stepgrandchildren, Finnan and Briah McClellanand one great granddaughter, Adelyn Eaton, age 16 months. He is also survived by a sisterinlaw, brotherinlaw, five nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews.

George received his B.S. in chemical engineering from O.U. and was employed by Phillips CoPoly for 31 years. He was an avid coin collector, computer aficionado and family man as well as a lifetime member of the Church of Christ where he was an elder and Bible class teacher for many years. He also served on the SanfordFritch school board as president for one year and local election boards.

A decorated WWII veteran, Staff Sergeant George Breen was awarded the Bronze Star medal for meritorious achievement in connection with military operations against the enemy in New Guinea and the Philippines. He also held the Philippine Liberation medal, the Good Conduct medal, the Combat Infantry badge, Presidential Unit Citation and the Asiatic Pacific ribbon with three battle stars.

Services for George Breen, Jr., will be conducted by Bryan Loughmiller and Laurencio Garduo Thursday, October 13, 2011, at 2 p.m. at the Minton Memorial Chapel in Borger, Texas. Interment will follow at Westlawn Memorial Park under the direction of MintonChatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

In lieu of flowers, family requests that donations in his memory be made to a favorite charity or UsseryRoan Texas State Veterans Home, 1020 Tascosa Road, Amarillo, Texas.
