George La Don Hamilton, 78, passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2015.
Funeral service will be held 2 pm Saturday, April 18, 2015 at First Southern Baptist Church of Fritch. Burial will follow in Westlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Fritch. His memory may be honored with a gift to a charity of choice.
George was born April 6, 1937 in Rifle, Colorado to Charlie and Verda Hamilton. He proudly served in the United States Navy. George was a very community minded person, he was instrumental in building the museum, amphitheater, senior citizens center and bringing YCC and YACC to the Fritch community. He also served his community by being a school board member and former mayor. George was co-owner and founder of the Eagle Press until it sold in 1995. He loved to pipeline but was forced to retire at the age of 75. George received a wonderful gift on February 21, 2001 when he was lucky enough to marry his dear friend, Fern Sheets.
He is preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Cherry Hamilton; and son, Scott "Chip" Hamilton.
Survivors include his wife, Fern of the home; sons, Bruce Hamilton and wife Melynne of Coweta, Oklahoma; Brian Hamilton and wife Nicky of Amarillo; daughter, Trisha Hamilton of Borger; step-daughters, Leslie Reeves and husband Bobby of Deer Park, Texas, Jamie Carter and husband David of Dalhart, Laurie Forks and husband Ronnie of Montgomery, Alabama; sister, Ferne Anders and husband, Troy of Amarillo; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; and a host of extended family.
