Gladys Miller was born March 28, 1928 to Joseph and Leon (Yell) Romero in Wellington. She married Richard E. Miller August 28, 1949 in Morse. Gladys graduated from West Texas State University with a bachelor's of business administration in 1949. She started teaching secondary business in Happy. They moved to Borger after one year in Happy. Gladys taught history and civics at Borger High School for one semester and then English and journalism the last semester. Both jobs were temporary. State law at that time granted anyone with four years teaching experience a permanent certificate, she became a certified teacher. In 1963 she began her 24 year position as a second grade teacher at Crockett Elementary. In 1971 the same year her son graduated from high school, she received her master's in education from WT after many nights and summers commuting. She was selected as Crockett Elementary School's outstanding teacher for the 1989-1990 school year.
Glady's joy in teaching came from the realization that a child had made progress within her classroom, the shine in their eyes, and the satisfaction knowing that she had helped a child along the way.
