Harrison Eugene Schoenhals was born February 5, 1937, to Anita Babitzke and Harry Schoenhals, and passed away Friday, May 30, 2014.
Services are scheduled for June 3rd at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church in Panhandle with Rev. Josh Light of First Baptist Church, Panhandle, Rev. Jim Powell, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, Panhandle, and Rev. John Henley, pastor Church of Christ, Hereford, officiating. Burial will follow at Panhandle Cemetery.
Eugene was born in Canadian, Texas and grew up on a farm near there. He graduated from Canadian High School.
He married Christine Burton in Boise City, Oklahoma on September 13, 1958. Their son Max, was born in 1961.
Eugene attended several different colleges and graduated with a Bachelors and Masters degrees from Texas Tech University and from University of Arizona with a Masters degree in Chemistry. Many of his fondest memories were of times with his science students and colleagues at Panhandle Junior High School, where he taught for 34 years.
Mr. Schoenhals was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. For many years he was active in Texas Classroom and Texas State Teachers Associations as well as Texas Retired Teachers Association.
He was a big sports fan and he enjoyed traveling, especially to New Mexico and Arizona. Eugenes greatest desire was to glorify God. He felt privileged to teach Sunday School and help people. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Christine of the home son, Max Schoenhals and his wife, Rachel of Arizona brother, Garner Schoenhals and his wife, Jean of Canadian sister, Roberta Conyers of Amarillo two nephews three nieces and a host of extended family and friends.
The family would be honored for memorials to be given to Coffee Memorial Blood Bank or to Calvary Baptist Church in Panhandle.
