Hayden Leon Dowlen, 88, died September 18, 2011 in Panhandle.

Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at Panhandle cemetery with Jake Minton officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Panhandle.

Hayden was born November 8, 1922 in Conway, Texas to Troy and Nova Dowlen. He attended school six years at Cuyler, and five years in Panhandle, graduating in 1941. Hayden farmed, raised beefalo cattle, and ran his own backhoe business. From 19971998 he served as president of the Southwestern Beefalo Association, and was a member of the VFW. Hayden also worked 18 years at Pantex, and was in the U.S. Army during WW II, serving in General Pattons 3rd army in France, Germany, and Czechoslovakia. He married Leta Anne Robinson February 7, 1948 in Panhandle.

Survivors include his wife Leta of the home, a son, Norman Dowlen of Amarillo, two daughters Cora Lee Thompson of Houston, Ann Norman of Adrian, 9 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren.

Hayden is preceded in death by two brothers, a sister, and a granddaughter.

The family would like to thank the staff at St. Anns nursing home for their exceptional loving care for Hayden.
