J B Watkins, of Borger, died Tuesday, August 20, at his home in Dallas. Celebration of Life service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Borger with Rev. Archie Echols, retired Pastor of Lubbock and Rev. Pam Lehman, Pastor officiating. Burial will be at Westlawn Memorial Park in the Garden of Prayer under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. Family and friend visitation will be Friday, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
J B was born in Mexia, Texas on April 20, 1924. He graduated from Borger High School after starting school in Phillips, Texas. He served three years in the Army during World War II. J B married Rosemary Mitchell on June, 30, 1946 at the First United Methodist Church in Borger. He graduated from Texas Christian University in 1949 with a Bachelors Degree in Geology and was President of Producers Chemical Company for 19 years. He was an independent oil and gas producer and in ranching since 1970.
J B was active in the First United Methodist Church where he was the past Vice Chairman and Chairman of the official board, and a Trustee. He also served on the Building Committee of the First United Methodist Church Educational Building, past president of the Methodist Mens Organization past chairman and member of the Finance Committee. J B served 9 years on McMurry University Board in Abilene, and 12 years on Methodist Childrens Home Board in Waco. He was past president of Hutchinson County United Fund, past president of Borger 2030 Club, past Rotarian, and a member of Panhandle and American Geological Society. J B was also past Director of the American National Bank of Amarillo Bank One for 30 years and Past Advisory Director of Panhandle Bank and Trust. He served on the Board of Borger Childrens Home and the Borger Country Club Board. J B also served as Vice Chairman and Director of Serfco in Pampa.
J B is survived by his wife of 67 years, Rosemary one son, Steve Watkins and wife Sue of Houston one daughter Debbie Battle of Panhandle 5 grandchildren, Christian Battle, Hunter Battle, Angie Watkins Buck and husband Shane, Kate Watkins, and Emily Watkins and three great grandchildren Garrett Buck, Ava Buck and Luke Battle.
In lieu of flowers his memory may be honored with a gift to the First United Methodist Church, 200 N. McGee, Borger, TX 79007.
