James Willard Will Agee
Will Agee made a peaceful transition to his heavenly Father on October 4, 2014, in Borger, TX.
He entered this life December 20, 1923 in Spray, NC, a small textile manufacturing town, in a company house. In 1941, he graduated from Leaksville High School, Leaksville, NC. He spent three years working in Spray, NC at the Fieldcrest Blanket Finishing Mill, napping blankets while also preached every opportunity that presented itself and temporarily filled the pulpit of several Brethren Churches. In 1944, he was ordained at the Spray Church of the Brethren, a small white church built by his Granddaddy. He graduated from McPherson College, McPherson, Kansas and received his Masters in Divinity from Bethany Theological Seminary, Chicago, IL in 1951. In 195152, he undertook Clinical Pastoral Education for specialized training leading to a career in Chaplaincy. Subsequently he accepted a seminary professorship offing fully accredited Clinical Pastoral Education courses for seminary students and local church pastors. For the next 36 years he was Chaplain at state hospitals in North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Oklahoma and Virginia. These hospitals were tuberculosis sanatorium, hospitals for the mentally handicapped and a hospital for the mentally ill. He also had a private practice for personal and drug dependence counseling during some of these years. He was a member of the Academy of American Poets Clowns of America International a diplomate member of the American Association of Pastoral Counselors and the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education.
He married Geneva L. Bowman in 1945. They had four children.
In 1990, he married Jane Snyder in Duke University Chapel. They moved to Borger in 2006.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Cassie Smith Agee a daughter, Mary Beth Drawson a brother, Demus Agee three sisters Mary Thomas, Ruby Bulcher, and Frances Fisher.
Will is survived by his wife, Jane Agee of Borger daughters, JoEtta Agee and husband Stevan Danford of San Anselmo, CA Krista and husband Hugh Bardsley of Vancouver, WA and son James Jr. of Astana, Kazakhstan two granddaughters, Harmony and husband Wade Cosgrove Melody and husband Buddy Greco Jr two greatgrandchildren, Liam and Mela Cosgrove and nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 2:30 at the First Christian Church with Pastor James Stephens officiating. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church.
